Background As we noted at the outset, the Internet is a vast, interactive medium consisting of a decentralized network of computers around the world. “ No one can spend patient hours in examining the complex web disclosed by Domesday Book without making some theories, at least some guesses, about the political, social and economic threads of which that web has been woven. ”

RB: "As a language teacher, the Web represents a plethora of new resources produced by the target culture, new tools for delivering lessons (interactive Java and Shockwave exercises) and testing, which are available to students any time they have the time or interest — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ”

= How do you see the future?
The Internet has provided researchers with a vast database of information. The problem for them is to find what they are seeking. Never has the information overload been so obvious as when one tries to find information on a topic by searching the Internet. ”

“ More and more newspapers and magazines have a website on which their readers can find the full text or abstracts of the latest issue, archives giving access to the previous issues, dossiers on various topics, etc. More and more library catalogs are available on-line. And most sites offer hyperlinks to other websites or documents on related subjects. In short, the Internet has become an essential tool for getting information, having access to documents and broadening our knowledge. ”

“ URLs are everywhere. Most obviously, they appear at the top of the browser window while people are using your website, but they also appear in a myriad of other contexts: in the status bar when someone has the mouse over a link, in search results, in emails, in blogs, read over the phone, written down on napkins, listed in bibliographies, printed on business cards and t-shirts and mousepads and bumper stickers. ”
