Modern Science and Anarchism
(1912)
“ Consciously or unconsciously, the ideal, the conception of something better, always grows in the mind of whoever criticises existing institutions. It is the more so with men of action. To tell men: "Let us first destroy Capitalism and Autocracy, and then we shall see what we shall put in their stead," is but to deceive oneself and to deceive others. Never has a real force been created by deception. In fact, even the one who deprecates ideals and sneers at them always has, nevertheless, some conception of what he would like to see in lieu of what he is attacking. ”
