Portrait of Achmed Abdullah Achmed Abdullah,  The Thief of Bagdad — Chapter IX (1924)

“ Life! The greatest gift in the world! Ah!”—he bowed deeply before the Caliph—“the greatest rarity in the world! I found it! Be pleased, O delightful Zobeid, to accept it as a present!” He gave the magic fruit to Zemzem, the Princess’ faithful Arab slave girl; and once more addressed the Caliph: “I have succeeded! ”

Portrait of Richard Francis Burton Richard Francis Burton,  Personal Narrative of a Pilgrimage to Al Madinah and Meccah

“ Sale translates it stay! stay! and says that Hagar called out in the Egyptian language, to prevent her son wandering. The Hukama, or Rationalists of Al-Islam, who invariably connect their faith with the worship of Venus, especially, and the heavenly bodies generally, derive Zemzem from the Persian, and make it signify the great luminary. Hence they say the Zemzem, as well as the Kaabah, denoting the Cuthite or Ammonian worship of sun and fire, deserves mans reverence. ”
