Portrait of Halbert Powers Gillette Halbert Powers Gillette,  Concrete Construction: Methods and Costs

“ It is seldom that form work, outside of very massive foundation construction, costs less than 50 cts. per cubic yard of concrete in place, and [Pg 137] it is not unusual in the more complex structures for it to cost $5 per cubic yard of concrete in place. These costs include the cost of materials and of framing, handling and removing the forms but they do not embrace extremely high or low costs. It is evident without further demonstration that time spent in planning economic form construction for any considerable job of concrete work is time spent profitably. ”

Frederick Arthur Ambrose Talbot,  Millions from Waste (1920)

“ The cost of construction has been exceptionally low, even for America where higher wages and charges prevail, the cost of building a 6-inch wall which in poured concrete is ample for either one-or two-story buildings, having been brought down to 4d.—8 cents—per foot, which is well below the cost of frame houses, admittedly the cheapest form of construction in the United States. ”

Roy B. Kester,  Accounting theory and practice… (1922)

“ When buildings are put up by the concern itself, full cost may include not only cost of material and labor and a fair proportion of the overhead where supervision of construction is local, but all other expenses directly incurred in connection with construction. These will include architects’ fees for plans and supervision, cost of permits and licenses, interest on borrowed moneys and insurance during construction, accidents and injuries to workmen during the construction period, easements, damages, strike costs, and the like. ”
