Kohen

“ All the relatives for whom a kohen must become impure – his father, his mother, his son, his daughter, his brother and his virgin sister through his father, and his wife – one mourns them. They [i.e. the sages] further added to them – his brother from his mother, his sister from his mother whether a virgin or married and his married sister through his father – one mourns for them, even though a kohen may not become impure for them. ”

“ With these a hunt by sunlight is the same as a hunt by night would be with us. There was the same confusion and awkwardness.
The Kohen was in command. At his word the galley started, and the rowers pulled out to sea with long, regular strokes. 26 In what situations are these words applicable? When the Kohein and the non-Jew are partners in the animal. They are exempt as partners in all of it, even in the smallest part. But if the Kohein and the non-Jew are partners only in the head, the Yisrael is exempt only from the cheek. If the Kohein and the non-Jew are partners with him in the hand, he is exempt only from the arm. And if he is a partner with them in the stomach, he is exempt only from the liver. ”

“ There was a moment’s pause, then Cohen spread his hands, bowed his head, and repeated “The Blessing:—”
“The Lord bless us and keep us; the Lord make His face shine upon us and be gracious unto us. The Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon us and give us peace.”
Under her breath, yet distinctly heard by Cohen, in the solemn hush that followed the Blessing, Zillah murmured:—
“But now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometimes were afar off, are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For He is our Peace.”
Cohen glanced quietly at her. She met the glance with one of intense yearning. ”

“ I cannot help smiling when I think of it. In the middle of the day, about three hours afterwards, as I crossed over to the 'Kleinseite' to buy some wax tapers, I saw two superior officers riding over the bridge, one I happened to know, the young Thurn--every child here knows him; but as to the other, a captain, who rode a perfectly black horse, he seemed to me as like our lodger Gabriel, as one twin-brother is to the other, and as they both turned the corner into the 'Kleinseite,' this captain caught sight of me and gave me such a friendly unconstrained look, as if he would greet me. ”

“ It was a metal spire ending in a globe of interlaced wires and metal ribbons.
"Looks like an energy broadcaster," he muttered. Then he turned toward the girl. "Where can I see this Kohonnes of yours? What's he like?"

“ A tall, broad-shouldered man, he has bony fingers and arms long and powerful reaching almost to his knees.
