A system of practical medicine… (1886)

“ So walking immediately after section of the hamstring muscles will have a tendency to produce genu-recurvation by the same mechanism which produces it in total paralysis, and the original deformity will not recur.
Besides the tendo Achillis, the parts which may be occasionally submitted to tenotomy are the plantar fascia, the peroneal muscles, very rarely the anterior tibial and extensors, the hamstrings, the thigh adductors.

Annette Fiske,  Structure and Functions of the Body

“ The biceps rises by two heads from the tuberosity of the ischium and the linea aspera and is inserted into the head of the fibula. It is on the outer side of the thigh and its tendon, which embraces the external lateral ligament of the knee-joint, forms the outer hamstring. On the inner side are the semitendinosus and the semimembranosus muscles. These rise from the tuberosity of the ischium and are inserted, the one into the upper inner surface of the shaft of the tibia and the other into the internal tuberosity of the tibia. Their tendons form the inner hamstring. ”
