National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health,  NIOSH Manual of Analytical Methods… (1994)

“ Sample bags, size 10.2 × 15.2 cm. SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Entering rooms contaminated with airborne TB is a health risk. Appropriate respiratory protection should be worn [6] . Filter samples should be opened in a biosafety cabinet. Once the samples are heated for the specified time period, there is little risk to the laboratory worker conducting the analysis. The TB PCR method is extremely sensitive. Therefore, segregation of the various laboratory activities is essential in order to prevent the generation of false positives. ”

“ On the contrary, no matter how healthful the surroundings or the salubrity of the atmosphere, for poorly nourished and feeble persons, from whatever cause, there is no immunity from tuberculosis. For no one who even approximately comprehends the universality of microbic life—and of none more than tubercle bacilli—can fail to perceive that, however much we may be able to modify the external relations bearing upon liability to tuberculosis, nevertheless every individual, no matter where his dwelling place, is more or less subject to tubercle bacilli ”
