“ Samples of blood and urine collected from humans pose a real health risk to laboratory workers who collect and handle these samples. These risks are primarily due to personal contact with infective biological samples and can have serious health consequences, such as infectious hepatitis, and other diseases. There is also some risk from the chemical content of these samples, but this is much less. Those who handle blood and urine specimens should wear protective gloves, and avoid aerosolization of the samples. ”

“ Because calculation of the absorbance area involves many points in the sample spectrum, Equation C3 leads to much more accurate results than the single-point calculation represented by Equation C2.
However, when many absorbing compounds are present in a sample, the absorption patterns of the various compounds often overlap. In this case, there is usually not an isolated analytical region for each compound in which only that compound absorbs infrared radiation; no single absorbance point and no simple absorbance area is suitable for determining any of the component concentrations.

“ Urinary butoxyacetic acid (BAA) is a biomarker of exposure to 2-butoxyethanol and 2-butoxyethyl acetate. Both 2-butoxyethanol and 2-butoxyethyl acetate are metabolized to butoxyacetic acid (BAA) and N-butoxyacetylglutamine, which are excreted in urine [1] . Since BAA produces the adverse hematogic effects attributed to exposures to 2-butoxyethanol and 2-butoxyethyl acetate, urinary BAA serves also as a biomarker to these particular exposure-related adverse health effects [2] . ”
