“ Under the GC parameters stated in the method, methanol may be identified based upon retention time and quantified. The working range is 0.4 to 1200 mg/m3 (0.3 to 916.0 ppm) for a 5-L air sample [1] . At high concentrations of methanol or under conditions of high relative humidity, a large silica gel tube (700 mg) is required [2] . ”

“ Lift the filter with tweezers above the methanol level and rinse both sides of the filter slowly with two 3-mL aliquots of methanol, collecting the rinse in the beaker. g. Roll and squeeze the filter with tweezers against the inside wall of the beaker to remove methanol retained by the filter. h. Discard the filter. i. Place the beaker on the hot plate (55 °C) and evaporate the methanol to volume less than 5 mL. j. Transfer the methanol extract to a test tube. ”

“ Protect solutions from light. a. Stock solutions are prepared at about 1-2 mg/mL in methanol. b. Analyte spiking solutions are prepared by diluting the stock solutions to about 200 μg/mL each in methanol. 2. Prepare internal standard spiking solution in methanol at about 200 μg/mL. (Note: Add about 2 milligrams of crystal violet per 20 mL of internal standard spiking solution to help indicate which samples have been spiked.) 3. Desorption solution: 0.1 M H2SO4 (sulfuric acid.) Add 22 mL conc. ”
