MARQUETRY (Fr. marqueterie, from marqueter, to inlay, literally to mark, marquer) , an inlay of ornamental woods, ivory, bone, brass and other metals, tortoise-shell, mother-of-pearl, &c., in which shaped pieces of different materials or tints are combined to form a design. ”
