“ Many TICs produce the same effects on personnel as CW agents. As a matter of fact, many TICs are of the same chemical structure as CW agents. However, there is quite a difference in their potency; in most TICs the potency is much lower. [1-6] For example, chlorine used to treat water supplies has also been used as a CW agent; organophosphate pesticides can cause the same effects as some nerve agents. Hostile forces, terrorists, or others may use RDDs to produce casualties as well. For detailed information on toxic industrial materials see FM 8-500.

CHAPTER 2 ”

“ Bad pesticides have stayed on the market too long, good alternatives have been kept out. There are strong protections against cancer, but not against other health dangers. There is no uniform standard for what is safe.
Those weaknesses in the present law put us all at risk, but especially our children. According to the National Academy of Sciences, infants and young people are particularly vulnerable to pesticides—chemicals can go a long way in a small body. The Food Quality Protection Act puts the safety of our children first. ”

“ Additionally, we found metabolite alterations associated with hallmarks of hepatotoxicity such as γ-glutamyl dipeptides, acylcarnitines, and proline derivatives. Overall, metabolome and proteome disturbances showed a substantial overlap with biomarkers of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and its progression to steatohepatosis and thus confirm liver functional dysfunction resulting from chronic ultra-low dose GBH exposure. Glyphosate-based herbicides (GBH) , such as Roundup, are the major pesticides used worldwide [1] . ”

“ Similar diversity is essential for the continued functioning of the cycle by which atmospheric nitrogen is made available to allow life to exist. This cycle depends on a wide variety of organisms, including soil bacteria and fungi, which are often destroyed by persistent pesticides in the soil. ”

“ The set of parameters and analyses necessary to declare a GMO as substantially equivalent to its conventional counterpart is still vague and focuses on a restricted set of compositional variables, such as the amounts of protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals. GMOs are then declared substantially equivalent when sufficient similarities appear for those selected variables [6] . Remarkably, while a majority of GMO crops have been modified to withstand and thus accumulate a herbicide without dying, analysis for residues for such pesticides are neglected in compositional assessment [7] . ”

“ Dead volumes can cause the method to fail seriously. Important areas to look for are larger bore and longer-than-necessary transfer lines between the sample injector and the analytical column [15] . Another area of potential large dead volumes are poorly designed or connected guard columns and sample injectors. 7. UV Wavelength Selection a. The wavelengths specified in this method are a best compromise for all of the analytes listed in Table 1. There are maxima for each of the pesticides that would give greater sensitivity and/or signal-to-noise ratio. ”

“ Average recovery for individual pesticides on Day 1 was 110 to 120% with cyanazine having a high recovery of 150% and 2,4-D acid having a recovery of 91%. Day 30 storage samples had a range of recoveries from 70 to 82% based on Day 1, with 2,4-D acid and simazine having recoveries of 104% and 88%, respectively. Day 50 samples had average recoveries of 80% of Day 1, with 2,4-D acid having 101 % recovery, and cyanazine having a 69% recovery.
