“ It will be advantageous if the spectra of ammonia, benzene, aniline and dimethyl aniline be compared, when the remarkable coincidences will at once become apparent, as also the different weighting of the molecule. The spectrum of nitrobenzene is also worth comparing with benzene and nitric acid. In our own minds there lingers no doubt as to the easy detection of any radical which we have examined, . ”

“ On boiling with aqueous caustic soda, it yields ortho-nitrophenol. Meta-dinitrobenzene is formed by the direct nitration of nitrobenzene with fuming nitric acid, the product being poured into water and recrystallized from dilute alcohol. It forms practically colourless needles which melt at 89·7° C., and boil at 302·8° C. It is used for the preparation of meta-phenylene diamine. ”

“ Desorption efficiency (DE) for nitrobenzene (recovered from silica gel tubes) was determined to be 98% at 10 × LOD [1] . Nitrobenzene storage stability at 0.12 mg was acceptable after 60 days with a 95% recovery [1] . Nitrobenzene recovery from gauze wipes, spiked and air equilibrated for < 1 hour, was 89% with a precision of 0.092, while recovery from passive dermal samplers spiked and air equilibrated for 24 hours was > 92% [1] .
