Report of the Special Committee of the House Assembly of Lower-Canada… (1829)
“ Pointe des Monts is a station formed by nature for a Light House, and the uses that it would afford, to shipping, I am afraid I cannot sufficiently explain—however I believe it is no longer a question that the North Land is preferable to be near to than the South, coming up the River. Ships want very much some assistance to enable them to make free with' the North land, to avoid the strong south-east current that always runs down in the mid'dle of the Channel and on the South, shore. ”
